1 Ms. Neha Garg Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Memorial Students - BBA LLB and LLB (First year) The students learned about the framers of Constitution and the entire process and struggle which was faced by our freedom strugglers.

Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) Institute of Management & Research (BVIMR)- Department of Law organised Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Memorial visit on 4th August, 2023 Friday at 26, Alipur Road Civil Lines Near Vidhan Sabha, New Delhi, Delhi 110054. The faculty co-ordinator was Ms. Neha Garg.

The Memorial building is in the shape of an open book which signifies the Constitution of India. It houses a museum curated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

As Ambedkar had adopted Buddhism, the site incorporates several Buddhist elements, including a bronze Ashoka pillar at the entrance, a Bodhi tree surrounded by fountains with that move to Buddhist chants in a sound and light show, and two Sanchi-style toranas (gateways). The memorial features 27 exhibits, including-

 a life-size exhibit of Ambedkar sitting under a tree in Vadodara after losing his job
   a re-creation of Ambedkar's study
 several leaders signing the first copy of the Constitution of India
 a life-size robotic statue of Ambedkar that narrates his speeches in the Constituent Assembly
 an exhibit on Ambedkar's wife Ramabai which shows the impact of her death on Ambedkar's life

The students got to know information related to the formulation of constitution, on how it came into being? There are on display the replica of all the pages of original hand written constitution. On this level of museum there is a recreation of the study room of Dr Ambedkar. There is also a dedicated corner for meditation on this floor where one can find a white, single stone, Vietnamese marble statue of Gautama Budhha. There are huge screens fitted on the walls which plays in loop good deal of information related to life and achievements of Dr Ambedkar.

It was interesting to note that there are some of the most modern equipment and Gadgets which illustrates the life history of Dr Ambedkar. There is a Life size Robotic Statue of Dr Ambedkar with proximity sensor fitted in it, the moment one reaches close to it, it starts delivering a great speech in his original recorded voice. It also makes bodily movement, making the entire thing appear lively.

The memorial is worth a visit, both in terms of a vision of modernity and sanitisation of history. Ambedkar’s critique of caste and caste privileges are given the short shift, while his stint as India’s first law minister is highlighted and appropriated. The imposing memorial is ‘New India’s’ gesture to one of her founding fathers, yet it left a deep vacuum in my mind. The materials exhibited did not showcase the critical intelligence and humanity of Ambedkar.

The students were enlightened about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's life which is a shining example of courage, determination, and social activism. His work and ideas continue to inspire millions of people around the world and serve as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for social justice and equality.

Some of the lessons that students learnt from his life:

1.Importance of education: Ambedkar believed that education was the key to achieving social equality and freedom. Despite facing several obstacles due to his caste, he pursued higher education and eventually became a leading scholar in the fields of law, economics, and political science. His life teaches us the value of education and the power of knowledge in breaking down social barriers.
2.Fight against social discrimination: Throughout his life, Ambedkar fought against social discrimination and worked towards the upliftment of oppressed communities such as Dalits, Adivasis, and women. He led several movements and campaigns to challenge the caste system and worked towards the establishment of equal rights and opportunities for all. His life is a testament to the power of social activism and the need to fight against injustice.
3.Perseverance and determination: Ambedkar faced numerous obstacles in his life, from poverty and discrimination to personal setbacks such as illness and rejection. However, he never gave up and continued to pursue his goals with determination and perseverance. His life teaches us the importance of resilience and the need to keep striving towards our goals, no matter what challenges we face.
4.Importance of democracy and constitution: Ambedkar was a staunch believer in democracy and the rule of law. He played a key role in drafting the Indian Constitution and was instrumental in ensuring that it enshrined the principles of equality and social justice. His life teaches us the importance of democracy, the need to uphold constitutional values, and the power of law in bringing about social change.
